Solid European Beech Furniture
Beech is the underrated hardwood: exceptionally hard, close-grained, and famous for being the timber steam-bent into Thonet cafe chairs since 1859. Its pale colour and tight grain let the joinery itself become the design feature.
About European Beech
- Botanical name: Fagus sylvatica
- Origin: Central and Western Europe
- Grain & colour: Pale cream with pink undertones. Very fine, tight grain.
- Janka hardness: 1300 lbf — hard-wearing.
- Best for: Chairs, benches, and pieces where the joinery is the visual feature.
- Price tier: Comparable to oak
Timber Care & Craftsmanship
Solid hardwood ages beautifully when it is looked after correctly. Dust weekly with a soft dry cloth, wipe spills immediately, and keep pieces away from direct sunlight and heating vents. Every 6–12 months, re-oil or wax the surface with a food-safe hardwood finish to preserve the natural grain and lift the colour. Avoid ammonia and silicone-based sprays — they build up and dull the timber over time.
Each Oakwalnut piece is kiln-dried below 12% moisture, machine-jointed and hand-finished. We source from FSC-certified plantations in North America, Europe and South-East Asia. Because timber is a living material, minor grain, knot and colour variation is part of what makes every piece one of a kind.
