Solid Timber Study Desks & Home Office Desks
Working from home is not a phase any more, and the corner desk you bought during lockdown is starting to show it. Oakwalnut builds solid-timber study desks and home office desks designed for 8-hour days: proper knee clearance, thick oak or walnut tops that will not swallow a coffee ring, and cable management that keeps the under-desk chaos out of sight.
Desk Sizing Guide
- Compact writing desk (100–120cm): laptop + notebook. Good for small bedrooms and second-desk-in-the-guest-room setups.
- Standard home office desk (140–160cm): laptop or 27″ monitor + accessories + a mug. The everyday sweet spot.
- Dual-monitor / executive desk (180–200cm): two 27″ monitors, keyboard tray clearance, and a writing zone to the side.
Desk height matters more than width. The Australian standard sit-height is 72–76cm. Our desks fall in the 74cm range unless otherwise specified.
Solid Timber vs Sit-Stand Frames
If you need a motorised sit-stand desk, most manufacturers make one. What they rarely make is a real hardwood top for that frame — usually it is bamboo laminate or MDF veneer. Some of our desks can be paired with an aftermarket sit-stand base: ask us before you order and we will confirm which tops are compatible.
Timber Care & Craftsmanship
Solid hardwood ages beautifully when it is looked after correctly. Dust weekly with a soft dry cloth, wipe spills immediately, and keep pieces away from direct sunlight and heating vents. Every 6–12 months, re-oil or wax the surface with a food-safe hardwood finish to preserve the natural grain and lift the colour. Avoid ammonia and silicone-based sprays — they build up and dull the timber over time.
Each Oakwalnut piece is kiln-dried below 12% moisture, machine-jointed and hand-finished. We source from FSC-certified plantations in North America, Europe and South-East Asia. Because timber is a living material, minor grain, knot and colour variation is part of what makes every piece one of a kind.

We ship Australia-wide from our Silverwater (Sydney), Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses. Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane metro receive free delivery on orders over $600; $50 flat rate under $600. Adelaide, Perth, Hobart and Darwin ship via Direct Freight Express with a live rate quoted at checkout — most orders arrive within 5–10 business days.
Prefer to see the timber first? Visit our showrooms at Silverwater NSW, Melbourne VIC, or Brisbane QLD seven days a week (Sydney closed Saturdays for pickup). Room placement, packaging removal and upstairs carries can be arranged as a paid extra, quoted on the day based on access and stairs.
Frequently Asked Questions
What size desk do I need for dual monitors?
For two 27-inch monitors side by side plus a keyboard, aim for at least 160cm width and 70cm depth. Our dual-monitor desks are 180–200cm.
Is the desk height adjustable?
Most desks are fixed at Australian standard sit-height (74cm). We do not currently offer motorised sit-stand desks but selected tops are compatible with aftermarket sit-stand frames.
Does the desk have cable management?
Most models include a rear cable grommet and an underside cable tray. The product page confirms per-model.
Can I use this as a dining table?
Structurally yes — desks and tables use the same thick solid tops. Practically, desks are 74cm tall and dining tables are 75–76cm.
Do you deliver desks fully assembled?
Legs unbolt from the top for shipping. Assembly is 10–15 minutes with the supplied Allen key. Ask about our white-glove assembly service in metro areas.
