Solid Timber Coat Racks, Coat Stands & Coat and Shoe Racks
A properly placed coat rack transforms an entryway — and stops the sofa becoming a coat pile every winter. Everything on this page is solid timber, freestanding and needs no wall fixing, in two formats.
Plain coat stands. A single post on a wide base, for coats, bags and hats and nothing else. The Olaf is FAS-graded solid ash, 50 × 50 × 172cm, on a cross base. The Norbert is solid rubberwood and the smallest footprint we stock, 36 × 36 × 169.5cm on a thickened, widened base — the one for a narrow hallway.
Coat and shoe racks. A thick solid-timber clothes rail with an open shelf underneath, so coats hang above and shoes sit below in the same footprint. The Donovan is rubberwood in a walnut finish and comes in three compact sizes from 40 to 48cm wide. The Dominique pairs a rubberwood frame with iron and runs much wider — 94cm and 104cm — which is the size that works as a full hall tree for a family entryway rather than one person's coats.
Choosing Between a Coat Stand and a Coat and Shoe Rack
The deciding factor is floor width, not hook count. Under about 50cm of free wall, a coat stand is the only thing that fits — it takes a 36–50cm square and holds coats vertically. From roughly 90cm, a shoe and coat rack with a rail and a bottom shelf earns its space, because the shelf absorbs the shoes that otherwise end up across the hall floor.
Height is worth checking against your coats: everything here stands 155–172cm, so a full-length winter coat on a hanger will clear the floor on the rail models but may brush it on the shortest stand.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do these coat racks need to be fixed to the wall?
No. Every coat rack and coat and shoe rack on this page is freestanding — a weighted or cross base, no drilling, no wall fixings. We do not currently stock a wall-mounted hanger.
Which one holds shoes as well as coats?
The Donovan and the Dominique. Both have a solid-timber clothes rail with an open shelf underneath for shoes; the Dominique is the wider of the two at 94cm and 104cm. The Olaf and the Norbert are coat stands only.
Is assembly required?
The Norbert ships flat and assembles easily. Assembly for each piece is listed under Specifications on its own product page, so check there before you order.
What timber are they made from?
The Olaf is FAS-graded solid American ash. The Norbert, Donovan and Dominique are solid rubberwood, with iron components on the Dominique frame. No veneer and no MDF.
