Solid Pine Furniture
Pine is the classic softwood used in cottage and rustic furniture. Its knotty grain and pale colour give it an unmistakable country-style character. Softer than hardwoods, so not our first recommendation for high-wear pieces, but valued for its look.
About Pine
- Botanical name: Pinus spp.
- Origin: Northern hemisphere plantation forests
- Grain & colour: Pale honey with prominent dark knots.
- Janka hardness: 380–870 lbf depending on species.
- Best for: Bed frames, cottage-style pieces, painted furniture.
- Price tier: Entry-level
Timber Care & Craftsmanship
Solid hardwood ages beautifully when it is looked after correctly. Dust weekly with a soft dry cloth, wipe spills immediately, and keep pieces away from direct sunlight and heating vents. Every 6–12 months, re-oil or wax the surface with a food-safe hardwood finish to preserve the natural grain and lift the colour. Avoid ammonia and silicone-based sprays — they build up and dull the timber over time.
Each Oakwalnut piece is kiln-dried below 12% moisture, machine-jointed and hand-finished. We source from FSC-certified plantations in North America, Europe and South-East Asia. Because timber is a living material, minor grain, knot and colour variation is part of what makes every piece one of a kind.
