Solid Timber TV Units & Entertainment Units
The television anchors the living room, so the cabinet under it does more work than any other piece in the house. Oakwalnut builds solid-timber TV units, TV cabinets, and entertainment units in oak, black walnut, and rubberwood — sized from 120cm compact to 240cm wall-fill, with cable management, tempered-glass shelves for AV gear, and soft-close drawers that survive twenty years of Sunday-night movie routines.
How Wide Should Your TV Unit Be?
Rule: your TV unit should be at least 20cm wider than the television on each side — the extra mass balances the visual weight of a black screen.
- 55″ TV: unit 160–180cm wide
- 65″ TV: unit 180–200cm wide
- 75″ TV: unit 200–220cm wide
- 85″+ TV: unit 240cm wide or wall-mount above a lower console
Height matters too. Australian sofas seat you 42–46cm off the floor; your eye line when seated is roughly 105–115cm. TV centre should sit near that line, which means a TV unit around 45–55cm tall for a wall-standing 65″ screen.
Timber Species for TV Units
Warm and dark? Choose American black walnut — deep chocolate grain that hides scuffs and matches leather sofas beautifully. Light and Scandinavian? American oak and American ash give a bright, natural look that works with pale walls and green plants. Budget-conscious but still real hardwood? Plantation rubberwood is a genuine solid timber at roughly half the price of oak.
Timber Care & Craftsmanship
Solid hardwood ages beautifully when it is looked after correctly. Dust weekly with a soft dry cloth, wipe spills immediately, and keep pieces away from direct sunlight and heating vents. Every 6–12 months, re-oil or wax the surface with a food-safe hardwood finish to preserve the natural grain and lift the colour. Avoid ammonia and silicone-based sprays — they build up and dull the timber over time.
Each Oakwalnut piece is kiln-dried below 12% moisture, machine-jointed and hand-finished. We source from FSC-certified plantations in North America, Europe and South-East Asia. Because timber is a living material, minor grain, knot and colour variation is part of what makes every piece one of a kind.

Frequently Asked Questions
What size TV unit do I need for a 65-inch TV?
A 65-inch TV sits best on a unit 180–200cm wide. This leaves 20cm of visual breathing room on each side and keeps the proportion balanced.
Do your TV units have cable management?
Yes — every model has cable ports on the back and internal cable routing. Larger units also include a rear service panel for AV amps.
Can I put a soundbar on the top?
Absolutely. Our TV units are built to take at least 60kg on the top surface, more than enough for any consumer soundbar or centre-channel speaker.
What is the difference between a TV unit and an entertainment unit?
A TV unit is the media console the TV sits on. An entertainment unit usually adds side towers, bookshelves or wall-mount cabinetry around the TV. We build both.
Do you offer wall-mount TV cabinets?
Some designs (especially the walnut range) come as floating wall-mount units. Look for the wall-mount tag on the product page.
How is a solid-timber TV unit different from an MDF one?
Solid timber tops do not bubble under warm equipment (game consoles, receivers), do not chip at the edges, and do not sag in the middle after five years. MDF units do all three.
