Solid Rubberwood (Hevea) Furniture
Rubberwood is the smart-money hardwood. Because plantation rubber trees are harvested for furniture at the end of their productive latex life, rubberwood is dense, dimensionally stable, and available at roughly half the price of oak. This is genuine solid timber — not particleboard, not veneer.
About Rubberwood (Hevea)
- Botanical name: Hevea brasiliensis
- Origin: South-East Asian rubber plantations — harvested at the end of the latex-producing life.
- Grain & colour: Pale cream to light tan. Even, fine grain.
- Janka hardness: 960 lbf — comparable to cherry.
- Best for: Budget-conscious buyers who still want real solid hardwood.
- Price tier: Entry-level (roughly half of oak)
Timber Care & Craftsmanship
Solid hardwood ages beautifully when it is looked after correctly. Dust weekly with a soft dry cloth, wipe spills immediately, and keep pieces away from direct sunlight and heating vents. Every 6–12 months, re-oil or wax the surface with a food-safe hardwood finish to preserve the natural grain and lift the colour. Avoid ammonia and silicone-based sprays — they build up and dull the timber over time.
Each Oakwalnut piece is kiln-dried below 12% moisture, machine-jointed and hand-finished. We source from FSC-certified plantations in North America, Europe and South-East Asia. Because timber is a living material, minor grain, knot and colour variation is part of what makes every piece one of a kind.
