Solid Timber Coffee Tables

The coffee table is the centrepiece of the living room and the piece most likely to be abused by remote controls, coasters, feet, coffee cups and children. Our coffee tables are built to take the abuse: solid oak, walnut and ash tops, thick enough to be sanded and re-oiled instead of replaced, on frames that will not wobble at year five.

Round, Rectangular or with Storage?

  • Rectangular: the traditional choice. Best for three-seater sofas and rooms wider than they are deep.
  • Round: softer visual line, safer with kids, and better for compact rooms.
  • With storage: drawers or lower shelves that swallow remotes, magazines and toys. Ideal for family rooms.
  • Nested / lift-top: extra work surface when needed, tucks away otherwise.

Sizing to Your Sofa

The coffee table should be about two-thirds the length of your sofa, with 40–45cm of walking space between the sofa edge and the table edge. Height should match the sofa seat height (or up to 2cm lower).

Timber Care & Craftsmanship

Solid hardwood ages beautifully when it is looked after correctly. Dust weekly with a soft dry cloth, wipe spills immediately, and keep pieces away from direct sunlight and heating vents. Every 6–12 months, re-oil or wax the surface with a food-safe hardwood finish to preserve the natural grain and lift the colour. Avoid ammonia and silicone-based sprays — they build up and dull the timber over time.

Each Oakwalnut piece is kiln-dried below 12% moisture, machine-jointed and hand-finished. We source from FSC-certified plantations in North America, Europe and South-East Asia. Because timber is a living material, minor grain, knot and colour variation is part of what makes every piece one of a kind.

We ship Australia-wide from our Silverwater (Sydney), Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses. Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane metro receive free delivery on orders over $600; $50 flat rate under $600. Adelaide, Perth, Hobart and Darwin ship via Direct Freight Express with a live rate quoted at checkout — most orders arrive within 5–10 business days.

Prefer to see the timber first? Visit our showrooms at Silverwater NSW, Melbourne VIC, or Brisbane QLD seven days a week (Sydney closed Saturdays for pickup). Room placement, packaging removal and upstairs carries can be arranged as a paid extra, quoted on the day based on access and stairs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size coffee table for a 3-seater sofa?

For a standard 210–220cm three-seater sofa, aim for a coffee table 100–140cm long. Leave 40–45cm walking space between the sofa and the table.

Are round coffee tables better with kids?

They are safer — no sharp corners — and they read as softer in a room. Round tables also fit better in narrow rooms.

Do the tables have storage?

Some do — look for models with drawers or lower shelves. Every product page specifies storage features.

Can the top be sanded and re-oiled?

Yes. Solid-timber tops are 20–35mm thick — plenty of material to sand back scratches or water rings and re-oil back to factory finish.
