Solid Timber Storage & Display Cabinets
Every home hits a moment where one more flat-pack unit stops being an option. This is where a proper cabinet earns its keep: closed storage that hides the clutter, glass-front display cabinets that show off the good pieces, and slim tallboys and cupboards that make a corner earn its floor plan. Every cabinet in this collection is built from real hardwood, jointed properly, and finished to take a decade of daily open-and-close without slumping.
Which Cabinet Do You Actually Need?
- Display cabinet with glass doors: china, glassware, ceramics, books you want to see. Interior LED shelves optional on some models.
- Solid-front storage cabinet: everything you do not want the guest to see — craft supplies, board games, spare bedding, files.
- Tallboy chest of drawers: deep vertical drawer storage. Ideal for bedrooms where floor space is tight.
- Low cabinet / console: under a window, behind a sofa, or in a hallway. Doubles as a landing surface.
Solid Hardwood vs Veneer — Why It Matters
Any cabinet claiming to be wood from a large retailer is almost certainly MDF with 0.5mm veneer. The problem is not the veneer itself — it is what happens to the MDF core when the veneer chips, when a corner takes a knock, or when humidity swings. The core swells, the door drops out of square, the hinge tears. Solid hardwood cabinets can be sanded, re-jointed, and re-oiled indefinitely. Ours are built to be re-finished at year 10 and be worth passing down at year 30.
Timber Care & Craftsmanship
Solid hardwood ages beautifully when it is looked after correctly. Dust weekly with a soft dry cloth, wipe spills immediately, and keep pieces away from direct sunlight and heating vents. Every 6–12 months, re-oil or wax the surface with a food-safe hardwood finish to preserve the natural grain and lift the colour. Avoid ammonia and silicone-based sprays — they build up and dull the timber over time.
Each Oakwalnut piece is kiln-dried below 12% moisture, machine-jointed and hand-finished. We source from FSC-certified plantations in North America, Europe and South-East Asia. Because timber is a living material, minor grain, knot and colour variation is part of what makes every piece one of a kind.
