Solid Timber Shoe Racks & Shoe Cabinets Australia
Nothing sabotages a beautiful entryway faster than a pile of shoes. Oakwalnut builds solid-timber shoe racks and shoe cabinets that hide the mess without hiding the craftsmanship — American oak fronts, dovetailed drawers, and slim silhouettes that fit even the narrowest Australian hallway. Every piece is built from real hardwood (not particleboard or MDF), so hinges keep working and doors keep aligning ten years from now.
How to Choose the Right Shoe Storage
The right piece depends on three things: how many pairs you need to store, how much floor space you have, and whether you want the shoes on display or hidden.
- Slim shoe cabinet (22–35cm deep): ideal for narrow hallways. Tilting doors angle the shoes forward so a single door stores 6–9 pairs.
- Standard shoe cabinet (35–45cm deep): the everyday choice for a family of four. Fixed shelves take boots and sneakers side by side.
- Shoe bench or shoe cabinet with a seat: combines seating with open storage below — perfect for pulling boots on and off.
- Coat & shoe rack combo: vertical storage for jackets, bags and shoes in one footprint. Great for small apartments.
- Tall shoe cupboard & shoe storage cabinet: when floor space is tight but ceiling is not. Stores 20+ pairs behind full-height doors.
As a rule of thumb, measure the widest shoe you own and add 2cm of clearance. Australian men’s size 11 sneakers need 33cm of internal depth — slim cabinets under 30cm deep will only fit ladies’ and children’s shoes.

Why Solid Timber Beats Flat-Pack
Flat-pack shoe cabinets from big-box retailers use 15mm particleboard with printed film on top. Once the film chips, the core swells with humidity and the whole cabinet is bin material within two years. Our shoe racks are built from solid American oak, black walnut, or plantation rubberwood, jointed with mortise-and-tenon and finished with food-safe hardwood oil. Move house? They come apart cleanly and reassemble. Redecorate? Sand the top back and re-oil for a factory finish.
Timber Care & Craftsmanship
Solid hardwood ages beautifully when it is looked after correctly. Dust weekly with a soft dry cloth, wipe spills immediately, and keep pieces away from direct sunlight and heating vents. Every 6–12 months, re-oil or wax the surface with a food-safe hardwood finish to preserve the natural grain and lift the colour. Avoid ammonia and silicone-based sprays — they build up and dull the timber over time.
Each Oakwalnut piece is kiln-dried below 12% moisture, machine-jointed and hand-finished. We source from FSC-certified plantations in North America, Europe and South-East Asia. Because timber is a living material, minor grain, knot and colour variation is part of what makes every piece one of a kind.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many pairs does a standard shoe cabinet hold?
Our 80cm and 100cm wide cabinets hold 12–18 pairs depending on shoe size. Tilting-door slim cabinets hold 6–9 pairs per door, and tall shoe cupboards store 20–30 pairs behind full-height doors.
Will size 11 mens sneakers fit?
Yes — anything over 33cm internal depth will comfortably fit AU mens size 11. Avoid slim cabinets under 30cm deep if you are storing mens dress or sports shoes.
What is the difference between a shoe cabinet and a shoe rack?
A shoe cabinet is a closed cupboard that hides the shoes; a shoe rack is open shelving that displays them. Closed cabinets are better for allergy-prone homes and open racks give faster daily access.
Are these shoe cabinets solid timber all the way through?
Doors, frame and top are always solid hardwood. Interior shelves and cabinet backs may be structural plywood on some models — standard cabinet-maker practice for weight and stability.
Do you deliver to Perth and Adelaide?
Yes. We ship nationwide via Direct Freight Express with live checkout rates. Perth typically arrives in 7–10 business days, Adelaide in 4–6.
Can I see the timber before I buy?
Visit our Silverwater NSW, Melbourne VIC or Brisbane QLD showrooms — we have most models on the floor. Timber samples can also be posted free of charge on request.
