Bedroom storage built the way it used to be — solid American oak throughout, dovetail-jointed drawer boxes, and soft-close runners rated for 25kg per drawer. No veneer, no fibreboard drawer bottoms, no plastic back panels.

Chest vs tallboy vs dresser

  • Low chest of drawers (4-drawer): wide format, 90–120cm tall, fits under a low window or beside a bed as a nightstand alternative.
  • Tallboy (5–7 drawer): 130–160cm tall, tight footprint — perfect for compact bedrooms and shared wardrobes.
  • Dresser (with mirror): horizontal orientation, dressing- table function — pairs with our floor mirrors and jewellery drawers.

The joinery that matters

Every drawer box in an Oakwalnut oak chest is through-dovetail jointed at the front and back corners. This is the strongest drawer corner joint invented, and it is the joint used in every piece of quality 19th-century furniture that has survived to today. Cheap drawers use staples or plastic corner brackets, which fail within 3–5 years of daily use.

Frequently asked questions

Are the drawer boxes also solid oak?

Yes — drawer sides, backs and fronts are all solid American oak, dovetail-jointed at each corner. Drawer bottoms are solid oak boards, not plywood or MDF.

Runners?

Full-extension soft-close runners rated at 25kg per drawer. You can pull the drawer fully out and see everything at the back — no more digging through folded shirts.

Anti-tip safety?

A wall-anchor kit is included with every tallboy 130cm and taller. AS/NZS 4935:2019 compliant.

Colour matching to my bed frame?

All of our oak pieces are made from the same FAS-graded American oak stock, finished with the same natural wax. Small grain variation between pieces is natural — the underlying colour and tone will match closely.

Do you sell just the tallboy or as a bedroom set?

Both. Every piece is sold individually. If you order 3+ bedroom pieces (bed frame + tallboy + bedside), a bulk-order discount is automatically applied at checkout.
